Maple Hill’s Alayna Fletcher has put the Patroon Conference on notice. Winning league MVP this past year and leading her team to a conference championship. Winning has almost become second nature to her and her team.
From the age of 5 Fletcher has been playing the game she loves. Moving to club soccer at the age of 10, she was ready for that next challenge. Fletcher played for East Greenbush for a couple of seasons before moving to Alleycats along with her coach Kendra Campana.
Fletcher credits a lot of her success to Campana. “She was originally my coach at East Greenbush and when she moved to Alleycats it was time for me to move on to Alleycats as well, and she happened to be coaching my team so it all worked out for the best,” Fletcher stated.
Fletcher has been playing school ball for Maple Hill since she was in 7th grade. She played modified for one season and then made the jump to varsity in 8th grade and hasn’t looked back. With her personal and team success, she has had an excellent soccer career at Maple Hill.
Fletcher has gained notable attention for her play on the field. Being named a Section 2 All-Star Class C in 2018 and 2019, and also being named to the 2020 New York State All-Star Team. Also winning the Patroon Conference MVP and named the Times Union Female Athlete of The Month in October.
There are many parts of Fletcher’s game that allows her to compete at a high level. She is exceptional at communicating to her teammates on the field and exceptional decision making which makes her an elite talent.
You can’t forget to mention her work ethic as well. An exceptionally hard worker, Fletcher trains with hopes of playing soccer at the next level and maybe even beyond.
Fletcher mentioned the United States Women’s Soccer Team as a source of inspiration. “To see women’s sports, especially soccer gaining the recognition they deserve is good to see.” The USWNT has been preserving through many challenges and this has helped many young women, such as Fletcher, to keep chasing their dreams and to prove that they can do just about anything that they set their minds to.
Fletcher enjoys the challenge of matching up against Schoharies Katie Krohn. “Were actually teammates for Alleycats and she is just so amazing to watch and to play against.” Being teammates with Krohn, Fletcher cherishes the chance to watch her play up close and enjoys competing against her in school ball.
Fletcher has yet to commit to anything beyond high school, leaving all of her options on the table. With her exceptional talent and work ethic, Fletcher will have an immediate impact at the next level and beyond.
