As a sophomore at Shenendehowa, Kelsey Higgins was very excited to have her first full season as a varsity athlete on the softball team. With COVID also getting in the way of this dream for Higgins, she tells me how it wasn’t all too bad. “I was worried about playing on a field and no longer in a gym, but you just have to get used to it”, said Higgins.
Higgins’ biggest professional inspiration is Willy Adames from the Milwaukee Brewers. Higgins told me, “I look up to Adames because it’s something I strive to be in my athletic self. When he’s having a bad day, he never fails to keep going or just put a smile on everyone else’s face.”
Off the field, Higgins is a big Great Escape fanatic. Higgins does enjoy a good bike ride, hike, or camping trip with her friends. “I really do love softball, but I also love a nice time without stressing over skills or winning games”, Higgins said. Higgins also told me her dream college would be Boston College, both for academics and athletics.
Higgins lastly provided me with some stats up until this point in her season. On her travel team, Miss Shen United Impact alone, she carried a .418 average with 24 RBIs and 8 home runs last summer. In 14 games for school ball so far she has had 14 hits in 30 at-bats, averaging in at .467. Higgins has also compiled 6 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 20 runs scored. This is just the beginning for Higgins.
Keep an eye out for Higgins and the Lady Plainsmen. They will be competing against Saratoga for their Senior Night at Clifton Commons on Wednesday, June 2nd at 7 pm.
