Who is the “motherf–ker” that Tom Brady is referring to?
Spilling beans about his former team, showing more of his personal life, and tossing super bowl trophies are highlights of a never-ending new era of Tampa Bay Brady, an ally to the media.
On the most recent edition of HBO’s The Shop, Brady opened up about his experience of free agency and was blunt sharing his reaction to one team who had communicated they were out on the Brady sweepstakes.
“You’re sticking with that mother f—er? Are you serious?” Brady said.
This soundbite was enough of a fix to cure our football withdrawals. We need to find out who is being crowned by Brady’s profanity.
Who was in the running?
Well, surprisingly many teams were out on Brady. The field of teams that showed serious interest in the former Patriot were the Bears, Chargers, Raiders, Rams, Saints, Titans, and 49ers.
It couldn’t have been the Chargers because Philip Rivers had already departed, leaving the Quarterback position wide open. It’s unlikely that Brady would speak about fellow Canton-bound Quarterback Drew Brees in that manner – so the Saints are out as well.
That leaves the Bears with Mitch Trubisky/Nick Foles, the Rams with Goff, the Titans with Tannehill, and the 49ers with Jimmy Garrapolo.
Brady seemed to speak rather confidently that he is far superior to the Quarterback in question, leading me to believe that the pejorative is someone Brady has either played with or against. He’s referring to someone that he knows, in his 40s, still doesn’t have as high of a ceiling as himself over the next 3-4 years.
That eliminates Trubisky and Foles, of course, Brady had also seen Foles potential in Super Bowl LII. Trubisky has been terrible but he plays in a different conference. This criteria also eliminates the Raiders and Derek Carr who compete in a different division and have probably only been up against Brady a handful of times.
It seemed like whichever team dropped out of the Brady sweepstakes was a real candidate for the six-time super bowl champion. If Brady wanted to go back to California, it wouldn’t be to play with the Rams, but with his favorite team as a child – the 49ers.
We’re down to two teams.
To be quite honest, the Titans are a sneaky dog in this fight.
People from all over the United States are running to Tennessee for the weather, economy, and southern hospitality.
The relationship between Mike Vrabel and Brady has been publicly aggressive which could cause the former Patriot Quarterback to share spiteful words with the media. Brady also played against Tannehill twice a year in Miami and should have a confident perception of Tannehill as a player.
Who is it?
While Tennessee is a prime candidate for having a “motherf–ker” under center, it’s hard to imagine Brady not being bitter with his childhood favorite team: Deciding to stick with a player who was once the new hotness in New England, who is trying to take Brady’s job.
Jimmy Garropolo is the recipient of Brady’s name-calling, but I won’t be surprised that in due time, this theory is proven wrong and he was referring to Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans.
