Chris Paul has waited 16 years for his first NBA Finals game, and last night he seized his moment, “The Point God” was the story of last night’s opening game of the 2021 NBA Finals.
Chris Paul led the way for Phoenix with 32 Points, 9 Assists, and 4 Rebounds on an efficient 12-19 shooting from the field en route to a 118-105 victory for the Suns. This victory was Phoenix’s first finals win since the 1992-1993 season.
Aside from the Chris Paul show, Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker were exceptional as well. Ayton turned in an elite performance almost having a 20/20 game in his Finals debut (22 points 19 Rebounds). Ayton was also extremely efficient shooting 8-10 from the field. Devin Booker also turned in a big performance in his finals debut as well pouring in 27 points and 6 Assists.
Phoenix dominated the Bucks offensively as the Suns commanded the pick and roll often tormenting Bucks big men Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis. The pick and roll was the go-to offense throughout the game as the Suns CP3 and Devin Booker were taking advantage of the Bucks bigs, which also led to looks down low for Deandre Ayton.
Although this was the Suns game, Milwaukee hung around but could never get over the hump to close the gap or take a lead late in the game. The Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo returned from a knee injury that looked like it would sideline him for quite some time, in his return, Giannis posted 20 points and 17 rebounds.
Khris Middleton played well for the Bucks as he was their leading scorer posting 29 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists doing a little bit of everything for the Bucks. Brook Lopez also chipped in 17 points on 50% shooting in the Game 1 loss.
Milwaukee will have to make some defensive adjustments if they wish to have success in the series.
