
On a brisk Wednesday night, #2 seeded Greenville beat #6 seeded Cohoes 1-0 in the Class B boys soccer semifinal matchup. In a game that came down to the wire, Greenville ultimately scored the game-winning goal with about nine minutes left in the game and advanced to the Class B Final.

Greenville will now play #1 seed Mechanicville for the Class B Sectional championship Monday at Colonie High School at 4 pm. #1 Mechanicville beat #4 Broadalbin-Perth Wednesday night 2-1.
In the first half of play, Greenville dominated possession against Cohoes but just couldn’t seem to finish their chances. While Cohoes defended very well and had some good opportunities on goal. They went into the half knotted at zero.

As the second half began, you could see Cohoes come out with a lot of energy. Anthony Buttofucco broke out on a great run and put an absolute missile of shot on target, but a good save by Greenville’s keeper kept them off of the scoreboard.
With just about nine minutes left in the game, Greenville finally broke through on a goal by sophomore Joseph Davis. “You know it felt great to finally get one, we had possession all game and just couldn’t get one in, this was definitely a highlight of my season so far,” said Davis when asked about scoring the go-ahead goal.

Greenville looks ahead to the Class B Final on Monday when they take on Mechanicville in Colonie. They look to preserve their undefeated record against a very tough opponent. Cohoes played a very tough game with some fantastic saves by their keeper Josh Marer but ultimately it just wasn’t enough against the #2 Class B team in New York State.
