In week three of CSMN’s power rankings, we recognized some powerhouse teams who have simply not been getting it done drop outside our top five rankings.
Despite some powerhouse teams, we are excited to introduce some newcomers into our top five rankings who have displayed an excellent showing of basketball this season.
1.) Miami Heat, 5-1 (Last Week: Outside Top 5 but within Top 10)
The Miami Heat are playing an exquisite brand of basketball this year. They are moving the ball like a Gregg Popovich-style offense and are playing lockdown defense. The additions of Kyle Lowry and P.J Tucker have added depth to the Heat rotation and have been paying dividends.
2.) Chicago Bulls, 6-1 (Last Week: Outside Top Five, but within Top 10)
The new-look Bulls have been excellent this year. Despite the loss of Patrick Williams, the Bulls are still getting it done. The additions of Lonzo Ball and Demar DeRozan have complimented Vucevic and Lavine, bringing balance to the Bulls rotation.
3.) Utah Jazz, 5-1 (Last Week: 1)
Utah continues to remain consistent. This year the Jazz have had a Top 5 offense despite their star Donovan Mitchell being inefficient this season. Despite Mitchell, the Jazz has been very efficient overall on offense, and also plays very well on the other side of the ball. Rudy Gobert has been stellar on the offensive and defensive end this year leading the Jazz this season.
4.) Golden State Warriors, 5-1 (Last Week: 2)
Despite missing some key pieces Golden State has been solid this year led by Stephen Curry’s stellar play. Curry’s ability to heat up at any given moment is why teams can never be comfortable playing the Warriors. Draymond Green, despite not scoring in bunches, has also impacted the Warriors by “doing the little things” assisting, and playing good defense.
5.) New York Knicks, 5-2 (Last Week: Outside Top 5 but within Top 10)
The New York Knicks are off to a great start, despite dropping two games that were winnable the defense has been great as coach Thibs takes great pride in defense. Compared to last year the Knicks are moving the ball better and taking smarter shots which are resulting in better results, despite it only being 7 games the Knicks look like a playoff threat this season.
