The Stillwater Warriors cruise to the semi-finals after a 64-42 win over Spa Catholic. Senior guard, CJ Mcneil and sophomore forward, Jaxon Mueller powered the Warrior’s offense to victory. Mueller had a game high 25 points, Mcneil was the 2nd leading scorer of the game with 22 points.
Straight out of the gate, both teams went back and forth scoring for half of the first quarter. Stillwater implemented trapping in an attempt to slow down Spa Catholics’ guard Robbie Bolen. The Warriors’ defense had moments in the first quarter which expanded the lead to the end of the first quarter 20-13.
Within minutes of the 2nd Quarter, Bolen sparked a run which led to 7 points in the quarter. The Warriors trapping strategy didn’t pan out as well in the 2nd.
Bolen did whatever it took to score, whether it was shooting over two players or going through traffic to get to the rim. Bolen’s heroics trimmed Stillwater’s lead to three at halftime 27-24.
Opening the 3rd quarter, Stillwater continued to trap and run in transition. The result was different when double teaming Bolen this time around. Their suffocating defense generated turnovers from trapping the senior guard. The tandem of Mcneil and Mueller kept Catholics’ defense honest.
As the clock continued to dwindle, the Warriors’ lead kept increasing. The 4th quarter was a bit of the same. With Jaxon’s effort on the glass with 2nd chance points, And Mcneil knocking down shots late, it was inevitable for the Warriors’ victory.
Stillwater will be playing against a longtime school rival Hoosic Valley on March 1. This Semi-Finals matchup will be at the Cool Insuring Arena at 5PM.
