Burnt Hills advances to the Class A championship after a 53-33 victory against Queensbury. Carlie Rzeszotarski had 20 points leading the Spartans to the finals.
Advancing to the finals wasn’t the only accomplishment for the Burnt Hills’ Senior guard, Callie Chevalier scored her 1,000th point in her career since she’s been with the program.
The first quarter was a bit sloppy for both teams. Queensbury implemented a full-court press which was able to create a few turnovers in the quarter. While Burnt Hills suffocated the passing lanes to run in transition.
At the end of the first, the score was 13 to 12 with Burnt Hills on top.
Going into the second quarter was a bit of the same. However, a few times Burnt Hills broke the press was able to capitalize on the advantages. Queensbury couldn’t keep Rzeszotarski off the glass which led to second-chance points that grew their lead.
Queensbury only scored 5 points in the quarter since the offense was stalled by a dominant Burnt Hills defense. This brings the game to a halftime score of 29-17 lead in favor of Burnt Hills.
Starting the second half, Burnt Hills found their rhythm in the half-court in the third. Riding the momentum from the defense continues to be a problem for Queensbury’s offense. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 44-25 with the Spartans with a commanding lead.
The last eight minutes of the game was a continuation from the last quarter. Domination in the paint, pushing in transition, and pressuring Queensbury’s guards from half-court. As the game concluded with a 53-33 victory for Burnt Hills who kept the pressure from start to finish.
Burnt Hills will face Averill Park for a chance to win it all on March 5, at 2:30 PM at HVCC.
